Hi Dan, thanks for the question! Great to see you want to become a Microbiologist. Feel free to ask me any more questions about that. Though i’m no longer what you’d call an old-school Microbiologist, I can tell you about how I got where I am today and let you know what some of my other micro friends are up to!

Having had so many jobs, it is kinda hard to choose. My favourite would have to be the one I have now, working on bovine tuberculosis research. It’s no doubt also the hardest job I’ve ever had but I really want to find out more about this disease so we can help farmers and their animals, as well as badgers. Okay, I do seem to be coming across as a bit of a bunny hugger. Honestly, I love animals and that is why I’m doing this research. Also……..I really want to be called Dr. Cat!! However, some of my friends have come up with a new name for me when I get my doctorate. It still involves Dr. but uses my initials to spell out a rude word… I’ll let you work that one out yourself 😀 I’m not very pleased about this new name and will refuse to respond to it if they use it in public but hey, I’ll still be a Dr!!!

The worst job I’ve ever had….oh so many!! I worked all sorts of crappy jobs when I was in secondary school (high school) and all the way through university. I think the worst was working as a receptionist in a small hotel. The hotel had lots of problems and so when the guests complained, I got the full brunt of their anger. I really hated that because I do not like being given out to……..there were many days where I had to fight the tears! Another job that left me pretty badly scarred was working in a Christmas shop. Honestly, it has taken ten years for me to appreciate Christmas Carols again. But saying that, every time I hear Mariah Carey “All I want for Christmas” I have an overriding urge to punch a wall…..but I think that may be just be the result of hearing her voice 😀
