• Question: What are your views on global warming? Do you believe that it is dangerous to the earth? And that it maybe beginning of a polar shift? if so, do you believe that something may happen in 2012?

      Hi charlottedavies,

Well, there are two kinds of global warming which people often confuse. One, is happening in the world, and its happening because of nature. The other, is also happening, but is caused by mankind. The world was always going to get warmer, because that is the trend of the world right now! Hundreds of thousands of years ago, the world was very cold, and since then it has generally been getting warmer.

Unfortunately, because of greenhouse gases, humans have accelerated this, and now we are making it faster. I don’t think it can result in polar shift, but it is definitely dangerous. Only a few days ago there were stories in the news about the impact of the small climate change on the seas – so many species of animal and fish and plant in our world are extremly sensitive to temperature, and the change of only a few degrees really is enough to ruin them.

On top of that, it accelerates the melting of the ice, and this will raise sea levels, and also change the whole weather systems we have. Global warming is strange, because despite its name, some places will actually get colder, and many places will get wetter too.

It is all bad news, and needs urgent and serious attention from governments and individuals in the world.

As for 2012, well let’s hope so! So a LONG time ago some relatively undeveloped societies – the mayans – somehow managed to understand a lot about astronomy and some ideas of maths and physics. There are some rumours that they were assisted by aliens. But of course, there is no proof of this. What is strange though, that their calendar existed for all of their time, and some of the future. And it ends, in 2012.

Maybe it the calendar ends because they got bored of writing about years so far ahead. Or maybe they knew or expected something. Of course, it is unlikely anything will happen, but if anything does happen you can expect many people will think the mayans somehow knew about it!

Very strange, and hopefully very unlikely šŸ™‚

I hope that helps answer your question!

Wow great answer Daz and great question Charlotte.

I don’t really have much to add to Daz’s response except my own personal opinion.

There are considerable changes occurring at the poles, but mostly due to the melting of the caps. I don’t think that the poles are making any considerable shift. The true poles do move a little but only like 1 degree every million or so years so I don’t think we’re going to see any massive polar shift in our lifetime! Unless you plan on living forever of course šŸ˜€

Like Daz, I believe that the Mayans were a very very smart race but am, I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen next year is the Olympics, me becoming a Doctor, and the start of my trip around the world. So really you could say that Iā€™m hoping nothing will happen next year šŸ˜€

What’s your opinion on all of this Charlotte? You see very well read on the subject!
